Movie 14: Contagion

Overall I was disappointed in this movie, it didn't really grab my attention or strike me as interesting really at any point in its substance less plot. The ending was well done and the overall outline of the movie was good, but lackluster acting and a deflated story really brought this one down. I guess I was expecting something along the lines of The Stand or Andromeda Strain but I definitely didn't receive that quality of material. It definitely made me think about how disgusting the world is and how fast our shit travels around but that was about the extent of any stimuli I received while watching this dull film.

Movie 13: Real Steel

Despite its prominent use of cold steel, this warm movie touched my heart and even choked me up a little at the end. While it was an ultra predictable underdog, complete with... well you'll have to watch the ending to see what I'm talking about. When it comes to Michael Bayesque robot gimmicks, this movie had them all. Robot fighting, emotion, dancing, and general robo antics. Plus, I mean... Evangeline Lilly is in it... 'nuf said in that respect. And for the ladies watching... Mr. Jackman awaits your loving gaze with his rippling abs and hulking biceps. A pretty awesome laid back movie for the whole family... or if you're like me, forever alone at 4 in the morning.

Movie 12: Bowling For Columbine

Michael Moore's poignant documentary really shot me in the core with a Tech Nine of wisdom and sharp cutting interviews. Several times throughout this documentary I got chills and broke out in goosebumps. One of these times I remember specifically as I watched the second plane slam its curved nose into the second World Trade Center tower. As I see the progress of the new World Trade Center and remember my visit to the hole that was ground zero, it really hits home how violent our world has become and how violent our country is in the whole schematic of demographics and numbers and figures in the our world. It isn't a must see by any means but it's definitely worth a watch and is definitely one of Moore's best.

Movie 11: The Ides of March

Named in reference to a time of political turmoil long ago in the days of Caesar (the last days of Caesar), this movie is packed with the same tumultuous drama as I expected. An excellent movie though and through, and gripping to the very end (the very last scene gave me goosebumps and was acted and shot quite chillingly). I would not recommend this movie to anyone who is not politically literate and uninterested in politics. This movie is politics politics politics. I love the game that we call democracy though so I had a lovely time watching this intellectually stirring movie. This movie is about commitment, about achieving the ends by any means necessary, almost Malcom-Xish without the violent protests and Islamic conversion. It was definitely a nice change from the long and tawdry list of fantasy movies I've been watching recently. But don't worry, they will return. Definitely pick this one up if you can, it definitely won't be a waste of time.

Movie 10: 50/50

Excellent movie, Seth Rogen plays the douche bag/lovable idiot friend who uses his buddies cancer to pick up slutty night club chicks and score some STTTTTTTTRong medical marijuana (but he can't be all bad...). Definitely a feel good movie, but very predictable, I guessed correctly again and again about key plot points, but it is definitely a cute movie. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays cancer like a pro, really clicking in his "life is bullshit" scheme. Anna Kendrick plays the attractive doctor very well even though she ain't quite a doctor, she makes up for it in attractiveness :) besides that the movie made me cry, laugh, and thoroughly enjoy myself. Pick this one up and see it NOOOOOOOOOWWWW.

Movie 9: Alien

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... classic shit right here. Good movie that still scares the organisms out of me every time i watch it... but then again I am a big wuss when it comes to scares and bumps in the night. Not as bad as the girl at the end of my row. I think she pissed herself 2 or 3 times. Good to know someone is more frightened then me. The perfect organism and a damn good movie... Alien will always be a fallback for me. I just don't my larynx to facilitate a feeding tube for alien spawn... : /

Wrap Up of Movie Day

8. Cedar Rapids (up the creek without a paddle)
7. Mr. Popper's Penguins
6. Cowboys & Aliens
5. Fat Boy Chronicles
4. Rise of the Planet of the Apes
3. X-Men First Class
2. Gamer
1. Adjustment Bureau (Probably fixed the score)

Movie 8: Gamer

Insert coin baby, this loose cannon is kaboom! Great movie, enjoyed every minute. It kept me on the edge and yet still involved in the story. It made me think (quite an accomplishment if I must admit). And it spoke to my own inner "gamer". While I may not be possessing the minds of real humans I can not imagine playing some of the games I play if they were real on the other side of the glass. This movie shows us what it is like to really break the fourth wall, crack boom bang! Glass shatters, brick explodes, gun fires. Like a modern day Gladiator (and fittingly so ;] ) this movie kicks... well ass to be quite honest.

Movie 7: Cowboys & Aliens

Why does one combine James Bond and Han Solo? To screw up the faces of some aliens nice and good. While the plot was a little shallow on this guy it made up for it in good acting and lots of action and special effects. I enjoyed it, and thought it was a pretty decent movie, though not as good as the actors in it. It wasn't Bond, Indi, or Han... It was just a couple of cowboys and indians high on acid beatin the crap outta E.T.

Movie 6: Fat Boy Chronicles

This movie is touching and sad yet uplifting and optimistic. While it isn't a cinematic masterpiece, it is definitely well worth watching. It kept me entertained and hopeful for the protagonist the entire ride. This movie captures the high school atmosphere more accurately than most high school dramas I feel, keeping the cliquish feel while not overdoing it and shoving it in our faces. It also incorporates an aspect of faith, but subtly and positively, not blatantly and garishly, which I very much appreciate. It is worth watching so do it!

Movie 5: Mr. Popper's Penguins

This was a pretty awesome movie considering it's based on one of my favorite childhood books and it has my favorite actor of all time. It is a laugh out loud movie :) Yay!

Movie 4: Cedar Rapids

Ok this is one of the stupider movies I've ever seen in my life. While it had some sort of charm because of the idiot humor of John Reilley it lacked a substantial plot or any real humor. It was a nice break from the action movies of the day. Let's watch my favorite actor ever next :D JIM CARREY!

Movie 3: Rise of the Planet of the Apes

This was a pretty good movie, though I would have to say it has the weakest plot of the movies so far. The effects were great and the acting was pretty darn good with a little nostalgic reminder of 3rd Rock from the Sun :) at least that's what I think of when I see John Lithgow. I'll give this one a 7 out of 10 because while it was an interesting movie it did not keep me on the edge of my seat like the others did. And I would say its a fair comparison as X-Men was also a Prologue. Speaking of prologues... I can't wait for the mother of all prologues to come out later this year... THE HOBBIT!!!

Movie 2: X-Men First Class

What can I say, it's another brilliant X-Men movie, can't believe I hadn't seen it yet. Packed to the brim with action and a pretty rich story. While it may not be entirely true to the X-Men "lore", it is in itself a great movie worthy of a watch or two... or three. C'mon guys it's X-Men, when you watch them you have to watch them all :)

Movie 1: Adjustment Bureau

Good movie, intellectually stimulating and spiritually thought provoking. Good acting and a great way to start the morning. This is the first movie directed by George Nolfi, and what a debut it was. While it was a story of love's persistence, it is also packed with action and mind bending suspense. If you haven't seen it yet it is definitely worth your time.

Movie Day 1/13/2012

I've decided that since school starts soon (I know... shoot me right?) I'm gonna have a movie day by combining the awesome powers of Redbox and Netflix to just vegetate on my sofa in the good old dorm room today. First on the list... Adjustment Bureau.
