Ya, I fucking watched it, and it was bad... Kristin Stewart can't act, Taylor Lautner can't act, and Robert Patterson is not given parts which allow him to do a good job, and he has a shitty English accent. I recommend this movie only to the partially illiterate bunch that decided Twilight is acceptable literature, this DVD should be written over and all evidence of the books should be burned.
I want to preface this by saying that I'm not a Twilight fan in any capacity.
ReplyDeleteBut have you even read the books? Can you tell me why they aren't "acceptable literature," other than because that's what other haters say? Can you back up your claims that these actors really can't act? Can you give specific examples from this movie that make it bad and explain why that makes them bad?
You're just saying the same things that other haters say without backing it up.
^I agree^ you're just saying what typical haters say
ReplyDeleteI have read the books in fact, and while yes they do appeal to their intended market, and they are a fun read, in no capacity are they the eloquent prose that everyone makes them out to be. They are certainly not the greatest love story ever written like many a Twilight fan would say. It was a bad movie because it is overdone, effects, lighting, and style were all way too cheesy. I do think it is a unique way to shoot a movie, and it kind of makes me think of a Harlequin romance in the way that it is filmed. Soft warm lighting throughout, and an almost baroque style in the wedding, which sort of parallels the book but not exactly.
ReplyDeleteAs for the acting, anyone who says Kristen Stewart is an actress needs to check again, she doesn't act, she merely recites her lines and twitches her mouth, I know this is what haters say, but that's because this is the truth. Taylor Lautner cannot act, but I believe that is more due to how he is scripted than an actual portrayal of his talent. "Take shirt off, say pithy pack or wolf oriented line, turn into wolf" is pretty much his go to scene. As for Pattinson (spelled it wrong sorry about that), he can act, his part is just way too cliche and corny to allow him to tap that potential, since Edward is an over dramatized, sad sack of vampire.
Maybe I am a hater, but my hate is based on the quality of material that is presented before me and I really can't do anything to improve that. Personally the most offensive thing I find about the whole Twilight thing is the portrayal of vampires, they aren't scary anymore, just a little frightening. Check out the movie "Vampyr" to see the first film rendition of vampires, acting and filming have come a long way since then, but story and substance apparently havn't.
That's the problem, you are generalizing everyone in the Twilight fan base as if they think that Twilight is "eloquent prose". There's never a fixed number of people who think one certain way, there are ALWAYS exceptions to the rules. The books, in my opinion, were written for entertainment. You cannot say that in anyway was Stephanie Meyer trying to get her books on the same level as say Pride and Prejudice or The Scarlet Letter. From the way she wrote the books, I feel as if she was trying to relate a common issue with teens through an enhanced, magical version.
ReplyDeleteWhen you go to talk about how well the actors/actress are, you are once again looking past the point. Kristen Stewart was given a role to play. The role was an awkward, lonely teenage girl that rarely showed emotion. There really isn't much anyone can do with a role like that and be told that it's Grammy worthy.
I have to leave but I will get back to my rampage later.
I am a fan of the Twilight books, and I enjoyed the movie for its large quantity of time featuring Taylor Lautner without a shirt. However, Anonymous, you're making a horrible point about why Stephanie Meyer wrote the books. She had a dream, and decided to start writing the story that dream was about. I don't feel as though she was trying to accomplish anything other than to record that dream, and it turned into something entertaining. This is much the same way that Morgan Robertson was inspired for and wrote "The Wreck of the Titan," and that actually is good literature. Look it up.
ReplyDeleteFurthermore, what common teen issue would she be trying to relate? Being a stoic, cold, and obsessive girl with a boyfriend wayyyyy too good for you? Right--cause that's so common, and such a problem.
Finally, I agree with the blogger that the acting is horrible.
The problem with your logic is when you write a book, you know it's going to be written for entertainment. If she wanted to just write the dream down, she wouldn't have had it published. Not everything written is gold and become your definition of "good literature".
ReplyDeleteFor the acting, it's not all the actor's fault. You should consider the director and script writer. Maybe the actors weren't given enough freedom with the characters.
And blogger, the movie isn't supposed to be scary. Why do you think it's a love story?
I didn't say the movie was scary, I said the problem was that vampires are having the "scary" taken out of them and having the romantic and lustful side heavily exaggerated. And thank you @lilies for saying exactly what I was thinking in that little diddy there...
ReplyDelete"what common teen issue would she be trying to relate? Being a stoic, cold, and obsessive girl with a boyfriend wayyyyy too good for you?"
And of course the movie nor its actors are "Grammy worthy", after all they aren't shooting a music video.
I also find it quite interesting that while I have 23 movies posted on my blog, the only one that has received a comment is this one. Movies of stature like "Meet Me in St. Louis", "Vampyr", and "Airplane". This leads me to think that maybe you commenters have not actually seen a good movie and therefore I will excuse your ignorance.
If I offended anyone, or hurt anyone's feelings, which I'm sure I did... you all being Twilight fans and all, I am not sorry, you can't make me sorry because I only speak the truth as I see it. I do however suggest that you subscribe because I love arguing with people and I would also love your suggestions for movies that I should watch.
ReplyDeleteOh and I forgot to address your comment about the acting being bad because of scripting... please read above comments...
